Global Warming- An Inconvenient Lie for the American Citizen

“Global Warming” has been a wildly debated subject over the past two decades. In many schools, such as mine, we are taught that man is destroying the earth. What I can’t seem to grasp though, is why when the children and teens were presented with the information regarding this issue, they were only presented one side of the argument. I also can’t understand why the people who came up with the whole “Global Warming” idea, mock it with their actions. In the following essay, you will not only see my personal opinions on how the teachers treat this topic, but how the rest of the nation treats it as well. You may find it interesting that everything that we have been told about “Global Warming” might just be false.

Who To Follow: Wondering About Al Gore

We have all heard the saying, “Actions speak louder than words”, but many of us haven’t given it a second thought. In his multi million dollar movie, An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore talks about conserving electricity. Just days after winning the Academy Award for the best documentary feature, The Tennessee Center for Policy Research revealed that his home had used up roughly 17,000 kWh in one month. This may not seam that serious, but the average American home uses less than 11,000 kWh in one YEAR! “A man’s commitment to his beliefs is best measured by what he does behind the closed doors of his own home,” said President of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, Drew Johnson. “ Al Gore is a hypocrite and a fraud when it comes to his commitment for the environment, judging by his home energy use.”
It’s one thing to say something and an entirely different thing to do it. In his movie, Gore explains that global warming will cause the seas to rise 6 meters. He also stated that coastal cities such as Manhattan may be completely below sea levels in the near future, yet he buys a 8.9 million dollar house right on the coast of Montecito, CA. Many other famous supporters of stopping global warming, such as Nancy Pelosi, have also purchased coastal homes. Maybe it’s time for our environmentalist leaders to not just talk the talk, but walk the walk as well.
Taking a Look Back In Time

Many of the scientists who are telling us that global warming is true are using evidence from thousands- millions of years ago. What many of them don’t understand though, is that their information is completely inadequate. We are missing billions of years of data simply because man stepped onto the earth less than 5 million years ago.
Earth is 4 billion years old, and during that time period, we weren’t able to log the data because frankly, we didn’t exist.
In Gore’s movie, we were shown data from thousands of years ago, and everything supported his assumption that carbon dioxide was polluting the earth. Yet, when study results were shown from a half of a billion years ago, we found out that carbon dioxide levels were actually 18 times higher than they are today. Remarkably though, Gore didn’t include this data in with his movie.

Children and Teens Needing to See the Whole Truth

When I stepped into school last Friday, I was met by a group of girls who told me that I agreed with global warming and that I thought that it was okay to pollute. I asked them where they got their information and they simply said, “ The movie.” As they walked off with their heads held high, I thought to myself, That movie must have hundreds of scientists on the set to get that much information across to the students. I looked up the movie, and I’m actually able to say that I laughed. Almost the entire movie was based on Gore’s own opinions, and the facts that were mentioned were only the facts that agreed with Gore’s opinions.
Later that day, as I was talking to a former teacher, I found out that the year that most of the “highest temperature yet” data was taken in 2006. Many people would look at that and think that it doesn’t matter when that data was taken, but their wrong. 2006 was an El Nino year. El Nino is an abnormally warm year that is caused by high pressure over the sea. This means that “Global Warming” most likely had nothing to do with the warm weather.

Conclusion

When I say that I don’t believe in “Global Warming”, I’m saying that I think that instead of ruining American society by telling us that we are destroying the earth, we should look into things more. I’m also saying that in Gore’s movie, the students were only given one side of the story, and were only able to produce a few assumptions from it. Showing An Inconvenient Truth to explain climate change, is practically the same thing as showing Fahrenheit 9/11 to explain what happened to the twin towers. If the schools are going to teach about topics like this, both sides must be presented in order for correct assumptions to be made by the students.

About Becca:
Becca is a 7th grader from Indiana who started writing blogs in 2010. She just started writing them after realizing that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. In early December 2010, she was given a choice: follow the staus quote and be loved by most of her teachers, or stand up and fight for what she believed in. She chose to fight because we only have one life, and if we spend it lying in order to fit in, we are not only aiding the downfall of our country, we are aranging our own downfall.
